Flash Quality Checked
The flash is what makes Labradorite worth buying. We check every batch to make sure the colour effect is clearly visible and strong before we send it out.
Labradorite without a good flash is just a dark grey stone. The colour effect of the blue, green, or gold shimmer you see when light hits the stone is the only reason customers buy it. Weak flash means the stone looks dull in a retail display and customers walk past it. Strong flash means the stone catches the eye, customers pick it up, and it sells itself. We check the flash strength in every batch of Labradorite we source. AAA grade has a bright, bold flash that is visible from a distance. AA grade has good flash suitable for most retail and jewellery use. A grade has lighter or more localised flash, good for budget collections and kits. The quality you order is the quality you receive.

Labradorite is a feldspar mineral that is usually dark grey to black in base colour. The colour flash you see blue, green, gold, or sometimes orange and purple is caused by light bouncing between very thin layers of different minerals inside the stone. When light enters the stone at a certain angle, it reflects off these layers and creates the colour effect. This is called labradorescence. Each stone has its own flash pattern, which is why no two Labradorite pieces look exactly the same. The flash is not a coating or treatment, it is a natural property of the stone.
The main thing that determines Labradorite quality is the strength and coverage of the flash. AAA grade Labradorite has a bright, vivid flash that covers most of the stone's surface and is visible easily in normal light. The best pieces show blue and green flash, sometimes with hints of gold or purple. AA grade has a good, clearly visible flash across a large portion of the surface. A grade has lighter or more patchy flash real Labradorite, but less visually impactful for retail display. The base colour should be a solid dark grey piece with cracks, chips, or uneven surfaces are lower grade.

Labradorite is one of the easiest stones to sell because it sells itself. When a customer picks it up and tilts it in the light, the flash colour appears and that moment gets a reaction almost every time. You don't need to explain the spiritual properties or the history to make the sale. The visual effect does the work. It also photographs very well for online stores, especially short video content on social media. On top of that, it is a popular choice for silver jewellers because cabochon settings show the flash perfectly. It works across crystal retail, jewellery, and home decor, which means it appeals to a wider range of customers than most stones.
