Chatoyancy-Graded Stock
Not all Tiger Eye chatoyancy is equal. We grade and inspect every batch for band clarity, golden intensity, and the strength of the silky-shimmer effect - because that is precisely what your customers are paying for.
Tiger Eye's entire commercial value rests on a single optical phenomenon: chatoyancy the silky, moving cat's-eye shimmer caused by parallel fibrous inclusions within the quartz. Strong chatoyancy means vivid, clean bands of golden light that visibly shift as the stone moves. Weak chatoyancy which is common in lower-grade Tiger Eye means a dull, flat stone that fails to deliver on its visual promise and disappoints the end buyer. We source Tiger Eye specifically for chatoyancy strength, grading every batch before dispatch. AAA grade delivers bold, clearly defined golden bands with strong shimmer. A grade is well-suited for kit packing and value retail. The shimmer in your retail display will match the shimmer in your sample every time.

Chatoyancy derived from the French word for cat's eye is the optical phenomenon that gives Tiger Eye its signature silky shimmer. It is caused by the reflection of light from densely packed parallel fibres of crocidolite (a form of asbestos) that have been replaced by quartz during the stone's geological formation. When light hits the stone at the right angle, these fibres reflect it in a single concentrated band that moves as you rotate the stone the so-called 'cat's eye' effect. The strength and clarity of this effect is what separates premium Tiger Eye from average material. Strong chatoyancy equals strong retail performance.
Golden Tiger Eye is the natural form golden amber and dark brown bands with strong chatoyancy the most widely available and best-selling variety. Red Tiger Eye is Golden Tiger Eye that has been gently heated, either naturally by bush fires or artificially, to produce red-brown and rust tones; the chatoyancy effect remains. Blue Tiger Eye (Hawk's Eye or Falcon's Eye) is the rarest variety it retains the original blue-grey colour of the crocidolite fibres without full iron oxidation, giving it a cool, steely chatoyancy rather than golden. All three are natural quartz and all three are genuine Tiger Eye the colour differences reflect different stages of the mineral's formation process.

Tiger Eye is arguably the most commercially reliable crystal in the wholesale market for five compounding reasons: universal name recognition (even non-crystal buyers know Tiger Eye by name), instant visual appeal through chatoyancy (it demonstrates its own value the moment someone picks it up), broad audience reach (men, women, spiritual buyers, aesthetic buyers, gift buyers), strong jewellery demand (bracelets are a global bestseller across demographics), and competitive wholesale pricing that allows strong retail margins. It is the crystal that should never be out of stock in any crystal retail business.
